Thanks to the support and passion the community has responded with over the past 24 hours, Apple is allowing AltConf to stream the WWDC Keynote and Platforms State of the Union address on Monday, as originally planned. Breakfast will also be provided during the Keynote with burritos and hot sauce sponsored by Sauce Labs. The Keynote live stream will be followed by a Keynote reaction panel by iMore at 1PM.
Attendees of AltConf are encouraged to show up no earlier than 8AM at the Metreon on Monday to ensure everyone gets in the door. Theatre doors will open at 9AM. Please note, there will be no reserved seating on Monday. Hero Supporter ticket holders can pick up their badges prior to the streaming at the front desk, or wait until the end of the day if they want to ensure their place in line for the main event.
AltConf is still unable to stream WWDC sessions during the week as part of this latest agreement, so the backup plan of showing sessions from other conferences will continue. On top of the conferences already donating videos (Google I/O, Microsoft’s Build, NSConference, 360|iDev, UIKonf), additional conferences have offered up content including Twitter’s Flock, CocoaLove Conf, Obj-CGN, and Cmd-R. AltConf is working on a schedule of the biggest highlights from all these great community conferences. Keep an eye on the schedule for updates or download the AltConf schedule app.
AltConf was never charging for access to any Apple content, and this has been clear in communications with Apple over the past weeks. AltConf is a community-driven event and paid Hero tickets were never meant to cover the cost of the stream but to allow the community to show their support and offset the costs of renting the theatre. The paid Hero Supporter tickets account for less than 20% of all tickets offered by AltConf, only allow guaranteed entry into the two speaking theaters up to 15 minutes before the start of sessions in the morning and after lunch, and have never applied to any streaming content. The free tickets make up the majority of tickets offered and provide attendees with seating on a first come, first served basis in all three theaters. With over 1000 seats available, it's going to be an event for everyone to take part in, regardless of ticket status.
With over 90 speakers, Keynote streaming, best-of conference videos, alternative events, and a great community, AltConf and WWDC are the place to be for the iOS and OS X developer community for the next week.
